Introduction
This student-centered and inquiry-based activity WebQuest has been designed to provide gr.9 and 10 students with an opportunity to examine their individual interests and skills and to use this information to narrow down potential careers that may be of interest to them. (One career could be one that does require post-secondary and one that does not)
Through this WebQuest you should come to an understanding of what particular careers may interest you based on your interests and aptitudes. By completing this quest, you will gain knowledge, a fuller understanding of some potential careers, including the education required, work environment, benefits, potential salary etc.
Task
You will:
- Complete a quiz on your interests and abilities
- identify three careers that fit your interests and abilities
- research these three careers
- Complete the following:
Power Point Presentation
Your Power Point Presentation should be a summary of what you found out about the careers you chose to research. Be creative! Include pictures, sound or anything that would add interest to your presentation. By the end of your presentation your audience should have a good understanding of what education is needed for each career, as well as, the salary, benefits, work hours etc. involved in each career.

Brochure
A detailed brochure with all of the information listed above can be created and presented to the class for each career researched. It must provide all of the necessary information outlined.

Newspaper Ad
With the information that you have gathered, create a job advertisement for a newspaper for each career that you researched. Your advertisement must include the following:
- Name of the job
- Qualifications needed
- Responsibilities the job entails
- Salary
- Benefits of the job or career
- Creative looking advertisement with appropriate pictures
Process
Go to www.mitest.com and complete the activity. A list of compatible careers will be listed at the end of the quiz. Select two careers to research further. Computer lab time will be assigned.

What are the working conditions or work environment like for this job?

Are there any special physical requirements for the job?
What would a person doing this job do on a typical day?

What other benefits/rewards would this career provide?
Would you have to relocate to do this job?

Strand - Personal Management
- Demonstrates an understanding of the purpose of self-assessment and the use of standardized assessment tools (e.g., aptitude and interest tests, skills inventories)
- Use a variety of assessment tools to produce a personal profile that describes their current interests and identify occupations that are suited to their personal profile
Strand – Exploration of Opportunities
- Demonstrate effective use of research skills to locate and select career-related information from a variety of sources.
