TECH DESIGN
The Design Technology course explores the skills of applying the principles of the design process to various projects, for example, designing a home, designing a hydraulic system, or correcting design flaws in a consumer product. AutoCAD, sketching techniques, and traditional board and pencil skills are studied in order to communicate design concepts. The course is suitable for students interested in engineering, architecture, construction technology or graphic design.
Communication Tech
TGJ20
Grade 10 Communications Technology
This course requires students to complete a range of communications technology projects. Students will learn to transfer information using electronic, live, and graphic communications methods. Students will learn to use manual settings on a camera, alter photographs using computer software, design a webpage and begin simple animations. The knowledge and skills they will develop will provide a basis for careers in areas such as publishing, advertising, print production, animation, photography, and journalism.
TGJ3M
Grade 11 Communications Technology
This course requires students to solve a variety of audio and video problems. Students will learn to use a wide range of software in the Adobe Master Suite which is designed for graphic and video production. Students will create their own video, learn how to make interactive applications, and will learn how to script a simple webpage. The knowledge and skills they will develop will provide a basis for careers in areas such as publishing, advertising, print production, animation, game design, multi-media, and journalism.
TGJ4M
Grade 12 Communications Technology
This course examines communications systems and design and production processes in the areas of electronic, live, recorded, and graphic communications. Students will create and publish complex electronic, graphic, recorded, or audio-visual projects independently and in project teams. This course builds on the knowledge learned in the Grades 10 and 11 classes to develop more complex projects.
Prerequisite: Communications Technology, Grade 11, University/College Preparation
COMPUTER ENGINEERING
ICE3M Computer Engineering Grade 11 University/College Preparation
This course helps students understand computer hardware and software, and how to use these to solve computer-related problems from an engineering perspective. Students will explore ways of connecting computers, interfaces, and peripherals by learning about logic gates, computer components, peripherals, programming, networks, and operating systems. Students will also construct and explore interactive systems, install and configure key computer hardware and software components, develop an understanding of the ethical use of computers, and explore careers in computer engineering.
ICE4M Computer Engineering Grade 12 University/College Preparation
This course helps students understand and apply computer-engineering concepts, and develop technical skills such as soldering electronic components. Students will analyse and design computer components, such as logic circuits and interfaces; develop, construct, and control systems to drive real-world devices, such as electronic models and robotic components; and explore networking hardware, protocols, and configurations. As well as developing project-management skills, students will examine the ethics of computer use and explore related educational requirements and careers.
