Another EOSSA Championship for the Panthers

Friday afternoon May 29, 2009, the St. Joseph Panthers baseball team defeated a team from LaSalle Secondary School 9-4 to win the EOSSA championship. The game was played in Kingston and marked the first time a baseball team from SD&G was represented in this championship. The Panthers earned the right to play in EOSSA by going undefeated in SD&G play.
The young Panthers rode the excellent pitching of James Amelotte who pitched a complete game only giving up four hits to the more experienced Black Knights. Amelotte struck out eleven batters over the seven innings. The St. Joe’s hitting attack was led by Brandon Daigle and Chris Tindal who each had two of the nine hits rapped out by the Panthers batters. A big part of the St. Joe’s victory was the ability of the speedy Panther runners who were able to steal bases at will.
The St. Joe’s defense was solid throughout the game limiting the LaSalle players to a minimum of bases.
The Panthers have earned the right to advance to the OFSAA championships to be played in Aurora beginning Tuesday June 2, 2009. The OFSAA final will be played at the Roger’s Centre during the week of June 8, 2009.
